Thank you, cycling! A snap interview with Peter Velits
This is the first “Thank you, cycling” post — a series of fast interviews with avid road cyclists. We ask them ten questions — they share with us joys and pains of cycling.
Let’s start with the co-founder of our brand, the former professional road cyclist Peter Velits.
Off the bike, what is your job?
— Ideas searcher, process optimiser and number cracker at Isadore Apparel. :)
How would you describe your relationship with road cycling, in up to 5 words?
— Love, hate, suffering and now enjoying.
What do you thank cycling for?
— For everything. Cycling is shaping me as a person since my early childhood. It allows me to travel to the places I would possibly never go. It makes me happier and creates many memories.
When was the last time you tried a new route?
— A couple of weeks ago with our friends in Farum, Denmark. Had a great ride on the road and gravel with a nice group of people.
Where did it take you, what did you discover?
— I saw the Danish countryside from a different perspective than just road - which was for a road cyclist very refreshing. I have discovered the hidden love to unpaved surfaces. :)
Best cycling experience ever?
— From my racing career definitely Tour de France. From my non-racing experience every road in Santa Monica Mountains in California. What a great place to go on bike. I enjoyed every bit of it.
What is the most marked characteristic of your current bike? What do you love about it?
— It was always the racing machine. It didn’t matter which brand I was riding, it was always the best, however, sometimes I was missing the soul of it. Now I am in the process of finding my new soulmate. :)
What is your idea of perfect happiness?
— Taking my family on the bikes and enjoying a great day out.
Performance or joy?
— Now? Only Joy. :)
What can you do today that you could not do a year ago?
— I can do almost anything. I can go riding for 10 minutes or 5 hours — it doesn’t matter. Last year I was supposed to follow the plan. Now, after I left the professional peloton, I have the freedom.
