Founder's Guide
to Winter Riding

If you’ve read our Deep Winter Art of Layering guide, you likely already know what kit is needed to see you comfortably through a Winter of riding.

Simply surviving the cold, rain, bitter winds or even snow is fine, but what steps can you take to make riding outside through the coldest months actually enjoyable?

We asked Isadore founders Martin and Peter for any tips they picked up throughout their years in the pro peloton, training throughout the pre-season. Here’s what they said:

Find your ‘Summer state of mind’

Whether it’s an easy cafe spin or an epic long ride, plan accordingly so you don’t get caught out. If you’re reducing the intensity of your riding during the late or early parts of the year, why not explore other cycling disciplines - or even other sports to keep things fun!

Encourage each other

Riding solo in harsh conditions appeals to some people but, if you’re like us, it’s the social side of cycling that keeps us going. Ride with friends, a club or join an organized ride-out to stay motivated and, in turn, keep others pumped for riding.

Eat well!

Bonking is bad news at the best of times but throw in some adverse weather, a higher risk of punctures and it can quickly become hazardous. Your body burns more calories in the winter so pay extra care fueling well before, during and after your rides.

Inside or out?

With so many fun and engaging ways to ride inside and online, you can train, race, explore new places or meet new people all from the ‘comfort’ of your indoor trainer. If going digital is your way to ride out the inclement weather, check out our range of indoor apparel.

If you do choose to ride outside throughout Winter, we salute you! Here are our top picks for keeping you warm and dry:
